In NQTA's concerted effort to bring current , critical educational information to N. Quabbin (and beyond) we are tackling the number # 1 issue and concern on the trails and in your own backyard , the frightening amount of tick presence happening right now.
I have heard from multiple sources that this year is an all time high of tick infestation and Celtz my Collie and I have been ( on certain trails ) under a tick siege .
It's time to get fully educated and not let these nefarious ticks take away your enjoyment of your special outdoor time.
So for the first time NQTA is having a 2 Part Gathering series on this tick crisis.
Monday June 12th at 6 o'clock at OIC we will be presenting "Attatck the Ticks Part 1 " with a Open Forum of information led by Community Outreach / Public Health nurse Pam Jobst .
Pam will be educating us on the many facets of Lyme disease and prevention and other pertinent and current information .
Debra Vondal ,Town of Athol Board of Health Agent who has given her full support but unable to attend due to Athol Town meeting is providing some wonderful colored educational phamplets on ticks and mosquitos and tick identification cards, these will be available free of charge ( thanks Deb).
NQTA team has been working on collecting all forms of educational materials for use with humans and our pets and will have educational handouts on chemical, natural and holistic remedies and contacts for support groups again free of charge.
The positive information includes the
re-introduction of the native Bobwhite Quail that these ticks are their main diet , what a wonderful natural solution and NQTA will reach out to be part of this program.
NQTA will be instituting a new program of rating the trails from a 1 to 4 ticks for awareness of where to hike where the ticks aren't such an issue. ( Birch Hill / Lake Dennison Trails ) and trails to stay off right now.
Also information on the new tick Powassan virus (whew) .
So come get empowered on education and practical information on how to be part of the solution and be able to enjoy your outdoor time.
As this is an Open Forum all will be invited and welcomed to speak on your expertise and research , so put on those thinking caps.
Don't forget those Spring Delicious Dishes and Desserts , thank you all for your support in our membership drive and welcome all to continue to be a member and certainly welcome all new people to help NQTA grow its community betterment projects .
All membership maps will be available at Gathering.
So let's fight back and " Attack the Ticks" and see you Monday June 12th at 6 o'clock .
Upward and Onward !
